Outfits Of The Yesterdays (Colorful Cravings)

♫: Paddling Out - Miike Snow

Colorado finally had a huge dose of snow a few days ago, with well over 19 inches in our neck of the woods turning everything a blinding, bleached-white.

We need some color, hm?

 (flowers on our coffee table)

(a back-ordered christmas gift from my in-laws finally arrived--thanks guys!)

(a contrasting clutch by diane von furstenberg, sweeeeet.)

(a valentine's day wreath)

(a girl can never have too many belts, ya hear?)

(a pretty pop-up)

(a toasty-warm sunspot for Kitty Smart Cookie)

(spring polish in the winter snow)

Outfit Of The Days (Fancier Follies)

Oh, nothing new for this week. I wish I had some exciting updates, but I don't--aside from the fact that I was knocked silly for the past few days, feeling as if someone used my entire lower-body as a punching bag. Crippling, crappy-ling pain, woohoo.

And I know ya'll are likely wondering--whatcha doing, Chloe? Have you been training for a marathon?  Moonlighting as a roller derby roller girl? Getting in shape to partake in next year's Lumberjack Days? Still trying to teach Petunia how to do the Dougie and the Stanky Leg? (Come on girl! It's useless! Give it up! Everyone knows that chihuahuas lack natural rhythm!)

Oh no; no no. It's just arthritis, and there ain't no party like a watch-Chloe-get-out-of-bed-in-the-morning-and-walk-like-a-drunk-penguin-for-2-hours-straight party. Heyyyy. Ho.

Here are some outfits from the days where my body wasn't giving me the middle finger, thank you.

I have  been pretty excited over the re-emergence of drop-waist dresses for Spring 2012--it might even be one of my favorite upcoming trends. Isn't it interesting how closely the fashion industry mimics the entertainment industry, though?  We all know that the recent abundance of pleated skirts, mid-length dresses, kitten heels,  and bow blouses were fueled by one Don + Betty Draper; no doubt the flapper dress trend is being pushed by The Great Gatsby (and Mr. Luhrman totally trying his darn hardest to ruin it). This country is foolishly-obsessed with that book, I think (and...I'm probably the most foolishly-obsessed fool of all).

Drop-waist dresses are surprisingly flattering; their looser shapes wear well on almost all body types. And in spite of visually elongating the torso, the illusion doesn't necessarily make the wearer look short and stumpy. It's kind of fascinating how that works, actually.  Magical!

Cardigan: J Crew Perfect Mix-Tape Cardigan in Bronzed Twig (similar here) (similar here in olive)
Dress: Darling Embroidered Drop Waist Dress (buy it here) (similar here) (similar here)
Necklace: Ann Taylor (buy it here) (similar here + take 30% off)

And last but certainly not least--I had never really experimented with lip color prior to this year, but I am now having fun with it. I have never been a fan of my mouth (I find it to be oddly shaped and wide), so I have always believed that slapping a bold color on top would only draw more attention to its weirdness. Maybe it does, but it is also kind of fascinating how different a bright red lip (+ a startled chihuahua) made this outfit look:

Top: Old Anthropologie/Weston Wear (similar here in "red topaz") (and at Old Navy)
Skirt: J Crew Felted Wool Mini (buy it here) (similar at WHBM + take 10% off with code "9525")
Belt: J Crew (buy it here)
Shoes: Old Lela Rose for Payless (similar at WHBM) (and by Sam Edelman)
Lipstick: Rouge Dior Lipcolor in Blazing Red (buy it at Sephora)

Outfit Of The Day (The Rest Of Vegas)

But first...A LIMERICK. Kinda. Ahem:

There once was a happy puppy named Pa-toony,
Who would always shake her butt so hard because she was a bit loony,
She loved to eat all of the food,
because it would put her in a really good mood!
And of course without it, she would be pretty darn puny.

Every night Petunia would get a special snack
As would her sister Kitty, for going outside and then coming back,
Petunia's sensitive tummy meant she'd get something grossly plain and homegrown,
While her sister Kitty would get a very fancy bone,
You know--the doggy-equivalent of a saucy pizza or a delicious Big Mac.

So one day Petunia's mommy ran out of her special nightly treats,
There was nothing left for the little happy Peets!
Without her special treat the puppy would be so sad,
And then oh lordy--she would behave REALLY bad,
So her mom had to think quick and find something for the little P. Diddly to eat!

Her mom said, "Aha! I know exactly what I shall do!"
"I will give Petunia these old minty tartar control snacks that Kitty hated- wahoo!
Pa-toony will eat any food she can,
even if it isn't really a good plan..."
And sure enough--the pup acted like it was the best thing that she ever did chew.

So this is one small way that puppies are a bit better than human runts,
They will take darn near anything and eat it with a happy, happy grunt,
Peets took the new (old) snack and ate it in a gleeful haste,
you know--a snack that was the doggy-equivalent of icky toothpaste,
and her mommy clapped with glee- she totally got away with her clever stunt!

Sooo. That is all that is new here, um...

Here is the rest of what I wore while in Vegas, now almost two weeks since I've been there (oopsie daisy). First, I wholeheartedly apologize for the weird lighting in these photos. They were shot on a gloomy day at home, since I don't typically travel with my camera, and since our living room is gray and all windows...well, it makes for some pretty funky lighting.  And second IT WAS  COLD IN VEGAS.

And I mean really cold, not just that weird-filtered-casino-air cold, so please excuse my old lady layering.  It happens.

Here is what i wore on an 8am flight (on only 3 hours of sleep) that landed us in Vegas a good 6 hours before our hotel rooms were ready on a Thursday morning. I had to be comfy and cozy but still not look like a complete homeless slob, yay:

Blazer: recent H&M purchase (similar style here for $29.99) (and here)
Top: Ann Taylor (similar style here) (and here)
Jeans: GAP (similar style here)
Ring: Banana Republic Sugar Ring (buy it here)
Bracelet: Ann Taylor Tassel Bracelet (similar style here)
Shoes: Miu Miu Jeweled Flats (similar style here) (and here for under $100)
Bag: Chloe Metallic Marcie in Gunmetal (similar style here) (and here)

And here is what I wore later that night while shaking my tail feather at The Palms:

Top: J Crew Perfect Fit Boatneck Tee (similar style here - mine is sans buttons) (and here for $9.99)
Skirt: Haute Hippie Goose Feather Skirt (buy it here) (similar style here) (and here)
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Greissimo Leather Knot Pumps (buy them here) (similar style here) (and here)
Bracelets: Forever 21 (similar style here)
 -

And here is what I wore on the last day in Vegas, compleeetely over it (as you always feel by day 3 in Vegas) and ready to be home.

(Never mind that in these pics, I you know--am home.  Pretend!):

Cardigan: J Crew Mixed Tape Cardigan (similar style here in "olive grove") (and here)
Lace top: Karen Millen (buy it here) (similar style here for under $100) (and here for over $100)
Jeans: GAP (similar style here)

What do you like to wear while in Vegas? Do you go a bit crazy, or stay in your normal realm (like me)?  Share in the comments!

♥ About...

Chloe, Colorful Colorado. 5'8" (only) when teetering in her highest 6 inch Miu Miu platform heels. Likes fashion, broccoli, ice cream, clarifying that she does not eat ice cream with her broccoli as to not cause worldwide panic, hoarding beauty products & pretty shoes, tickle fights with her husband (he would like to clarify that he does not like them back, OKAY?), anything covered in sprinkles, any alcoholic beverage made with Tang, live music, clicking the camera, sarcasm fonts, vases stuffed full of pretty flowers, and laughing hard until her belly hurts. Wants an adventurous life, lots of puppies, to never obtusely wander around with her fly down, and to be an iconic Diane Von Furstenberg wrap dress with a bright, festive print when she grows up. This is where she bravely documents it all. (oh you really want more, do you?)
